Poetry, Potions, and Pistols — What and Why

At first glance, these three things have nothing in common, other than my interest in all of them. As I thought about this odd combination, I realized there is something that connects all of them — power. Each of these areas are not only solid and specific parts of my life, they also represent pathways to self empowerment.

Poetry

Poetry is self-expression. I write poetry as a means to say things in a way I can’t otherwise. Love, pain, joy, anger, beauty, all laid out through metaphor and rhythm.

Poetry also represents all forms of self-expression and art and the power of being able to create and communicate in a unique and unfettered manner.

Potions

I’ve been Wiccan for almost 30 years. This spiritual path allows me to connect to deity and community in a way that makes sense to me and makes my heart sing.

Potions and the witchcraft path also represent the power of being able to determine your own spiritual and religious path, without pressure from family or society to conform.

Pistols

I’ve recently decided that I wanted to learn how to shoot. As with most things, when I get a deep interest, I dive head first and learn as much as I can.

Pistols also represent the power of being in control of your own body, being able to defend yourself, and being independent.
